Engage your groups in meaningful conversation about Diversity and Inclusion by talking about realistic situations, prevalent in many organizations. The case-focused approach will bring this important topic to life, while making learning fun. Option for virtual training use is also included.
PLAYING THE DIVERSITY GAME
OVERVIEW: Play the Diversity & Inclusion Training Activity with or without the game board.
If using the game board, toss a die and travel around the board from the office entrance to the department of your choice -- Admin, Marketing, Customer Service, HR, Meeting Room, or Finance. When each player arrives at their designated department, they'll receive a "Real Case" card containing a diversity-related case study. They'll read and discuss the card, highlight the issues that the case draws out, and consider possible solutions and approaches that would be more inclusive.
If time permits, players can also consider the "You Decide" situation that corresponds with their department. These cards raise awareness and allow players to practice identifying different types of discrimination. When time it up, players will start their trek back to their starting point.
As players travel to and from the office, they'll draw an "On the Spot!" card if they land on a red dot.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Develop a culture that values differences and treats everyone fairly
- Understand different types of discrimination that pop up frequently at work
- Hear alternative views and consider new approaches that would be more inclusive
- Foster empathy, mutual respect, and emotional intelligence
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
The set includes 2 complete sets of game parts, so that up to 12 players can participate, in teams of 6.
6 CASE CARDS
There is one Real Case card for each of the six departments. However, the situations aren't particular to the department, so any player can visit any department. Case cards ask players, "What issues are highlighted here?"
30 ON THE SPOT CARDS
On the way to and from the offices, players may land on a red dot, where they'll pick up an "On the Spot!" card. Some cards contain statistics and teams choose which figure they think is correct. Other cards are True/false – guaranteed to stimulate discussion. Further cards cover a range of key issues.
6 YOU DECIDE! CARDS
If time permits, after discussing the 6 real cases, players can discuss the You Decide situations, which dig further into challenges focusing on LGBTQ+, sexual harassment, stereotyping, ageism, and more. With these cards, players choose a response from a number of options.
TRAINER'S NOTES
The notes contain a commentary on each card. There is also an optional PowerPoint to help with the Debrief.
