** TIPS **
Scratch off stickers aren't just for prizes! Use them in these clever ways:
Getting to know each other – make a list of unique qualities of each person on your team. Beside the characteristic, write a name (small enough that you can cover it up with a scratch sticker). Have people guess who's who, then scratch off to see if they got it right.
Create a super fun, interactive quiz – develop a worksheet of questions or problems. Beside each question, write the answer then cover it up with a scratch sticker. After someone's tried their hardest to come up with the right answer, they can scratch off and see how they did.
Add privacy to grades – after marking grades with a your big red pen, cover them up with a scratch sticker so that learners can privately learn how well they performed.
Let everyone "win" – Give one ticket to EACH participants at the beginning of the session. Following game
play, award winning players additional tickets.
Exceptional participation – ditribute an extra ticket to anyone who offers an insightful question or comment. Then have final drawings at the close of the session.
Award “return-from-break” prizes – To encourages timely return from breaks, distribute a chance-to-win ticket to each participant who arrives back on time.
No more excuses! Make it a habit to thank someone every day!
Don't wait for an anniversary or performance review to give positive feedback. Use these clever and colorful sticky notes liberally to boost your team's spirits, recognize large or small contributions, and inspire continued effort. These MIni Kudos Sticky Notes offer a variety of fun ways to recognize your students' or colleagues' efforts.
The messages are pre-printed -- all you have to do is add your name, and then STICK IT UP on their computer monitors, doors, windows, lunchboxes, to bring a smile to their day. Simple and effective!
12 pads, 3 each 4 different styles. 25 notes/pad. Each pad is 2.25" square.
The Mayo Jar is a powerful lesson in time management that we've made easy to do yourself in your classroom. Includes all you need -- except the beer!
The Parable
As the story goes A professor stands before his philosophy class with an empty jar, fills it to the top with golf balls and asks if its full. The group says "yes."
Yet he still manages to fill the jar with more stuff -- first pebbles, then sand, even a beer or two!
The golf balls represent the important things–your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions–things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.
The sand is everything else; the small stuff.
If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
The Jar Activity
Set up: Divide the group into teams. Give each team a smaller jar (not provided) and an assortment of materials: golf balls, rocks, stones, gravel, sand, or anything else of your choosing. Be sure each group has exactly the same amounts of materials so you can determine which group was able to fit the most into their jar.
Explain: Challenge groups to fill their jar with as much of their materials possible.
Contents
Plastic Mayo jar is 7" tall, 5" diam. Includes pebbles, sand and golf balls, packed separately. Comes in a convenient see-through vinyl drawstring storage bag for convenient transport.
Weight is 7.5 lbs.
Look under your thumb and share your reaction to whatever prompt lies under your thumb. Thumball is a soft 6" diameter stuffed ball with loads of applications!

- Actions to take if/when things go bad
- Dealing with bullying and harassment
- Addressing substance abuse
- Opportunities to improve employee wellness at work and home
- Ways to make the workplace safer, including protocols, rules, support
- Effect of personal decisions on others

- ...and more!

** TIPS **
FACILITATION SUGGESTIONS
Frame the discussion: Explain that the goal is to create a "safer" environment (physically and emotionally), to reduce the probability of injury, and to raise organizational awareness of safety issues. The point is to raise awareness and not to point fingers.
Options:
Intended to supplement safety training, not replace it, the Toolbox Talks Thumball can help kick off safety initiatives and identify areas to improve workplace safety.
* Discuss similarities or differences in replies.
* Have everyone respond to the same prompt.
* Toss the ba!! and pick a single topic on which to focus your weekly safety meeting.
Be prepared: Toolbox Talks are likely to raise questions about proper safety checklists or "correct" techniques for first aid, fire prevention, CPR, etc. Several websites provide such information sheets with ready answers pertaining to a variety of work situations:
Favorites include: * cpwr.com * safetytoolboxtopics.com * ehs.harvard.edu
Take notes for follow-up: While this is a discussion-starter tool, it may surface organizational issues or uncover gaps in knowledge about recommended safety protocols. Keep a list of follow-up actions that are identified during discussions.

** TIPS **
FACILITATION SUGGESTIONS:
Your goal is to make conversations about ethics interesting and productive, without judgement or finger pointing. To explore these touchy questions most effectively, remind your group that there are no right answers. Be transparent about these goals and explain your interest in opening discussion and having rich conversations -- about morals, handling sticky situations, evaluating fairness, and exploring the organizational practices that enable or inhibit ethical behavior.
Take turns circulating the ball by passing, rolling, tossing and catching. Ask recipients to respond to the prompt under their right thumb. Because each prompt can lead to an interest dialogue, you may choose any one of these facilitation techniques:
- Have each recipient answer the question with the first thought that comes to their mind.
- After one recipient responds, invite others to share their replies to the same prompt.
- Toss the ball to select one on discussion prompt to focus on for your entire meeting.
- Ask players to anticipate what answer will be given by another player.

HOW IT WORKS
Someone throws the ball, another catches it and responds to the prompt under their thumb.
FACILITATION TIP 1
EXPLAIN....
In order to achieve greatness, sometimes teams need to take a step back and reflect on their relationships, communication, and their process of working together.
Tailor your Thumball game to meet your needs:
Option1: Have each player respond only to the prompt under their thumb, then toss the ball to another.
Option 2: After the first player has responded to their prompt, invite others to share their perspective or discuss ways they could work together more effectively.
FACILITATION TIP 2
SET GROUND RULES
Explain that conversations about team dynamics can become emotionally charged. The goal of the Team Dynamics Thumball activity is to raise important issues and have necessary conversations in a positive environment. So that everyone can feel safe, have the group set up their own Ground Rules. Here are some that you might want on the list:
- Only one person speaks at a time
- Speak only for yourself; Use I statements
- No personal attacks critique ideas, not people
- Agree to disagree; disagree without being disagreeable
- Listen - make sure everyone feels heard and validated
- Be positive and non-judgmental; open to new ideas
FACILITATION TIP 3
IF CONVERSATIONS GET STICKY
Expert facilitators suggest these techniques to ease difficult or emotional situations:
- Pause the conversation so you can review the ground rules with the group.
- Redirect negative comments; ask what can we do differently?
- Focus on changes that can positively affect the team.
- If two parties disagree, suggest that they switch roles and make the counter argument.
- Keep a flip chart of difficult topics that can be addressed later.
- Be ready to share some of your own experiences.
- Take a break. Stop for awhile and regroup.
- Thank participants for sharing their personal stories.

PLAYING WITH CONVERSATION DECKS
Pairs of 2 or 3
To play, deal a card to each participant. Have participants stand, find a partern, and discuss the questions on each of their cards. When their conversation has run its course, invite them to swap cards and hold their arm in the air, indicating to other players that they're ready to find a new partner. Repeat this process as time allows.
Table Talks
If your group isn't too big or you want to build camaraderie at a table, have each person in the group choose a card and answer the question. If you have enough time, ask each speaker a couple of follow-up questions. Alternatively, have others at the table answer those same questions for themselves. Then, swap cards, or pick new cards from the top of the deck.
